“…Karl’s ideal goes on: to carry on without getting enclosures, without bounding yourself, towards what you feel to be real…”, these were the final words of Kurt Diemberger, the only living climber who has conquered two first ascents on two eight thousand, at the 1st edition of the Karl Unterkircher Award in Val Garden in the Dolomites, World Heritage.
Recently, the founders committee and the working group, met for the 2nd edition of this great event. They decided to organize the award every two years and to nominate three alpinists/groups.
This year the Karl Unterkircher Award takes place on 6th July 2012 at 9 pm at the Culture Hause “Oswald von Wolkenstein” at Selva di Gardena.
Members of the honour jury are Oswald Dr. med. Oelz (Swiss, alpinist, President of the 2012 Jury), Silvio Mondinelli (Gnaro, Italian, alpinist), Christoph Hainz (Italian, alpinist), Ivo Rabanser (Italian, alpinist) and Carlo Caccia (Italian, journalist of mountaineering magazines). Guests of honour will be Kurt Diemberger an Temba and Subin, two Nepalese sherpas, friends of Karl.
