2nd edition Karl Unterkircher Award in Val Gardena

“…Karl’s ideal goes on: to carry on without getting enclosures, without bounding yourself, towards what you feel to be real…”, these were the final words of Kurt Diemberger, the only living climber who has conquered two first ascents on two eight thousand, at the 1st edition of the Karl Unterkircher Award in Val Garden in the Dolomites, World Heritage.

Recently, the founders committee and the working group, met for the 2nd edition of this great event. They decided to organize the award every two years and to nominate three alpinists/groups.

This year the Karl Unterkircher Award takes place on 6th July 2012 at 9 pm at the Culture Hause “Oswald von Wolkenstein” at Selva di Gardena.

Members of the honour jury are Oswald Dr. med. Oelz (Swiss, alpinist, President of the 2012 Jury), Silvio Mondinelli (Gnaro, Italian, alpinist), Christoph Hainz (Italian, alpinist), Ivo Rabanser (Italian, alpinist) and Carlo Caccia (Italian, journalist of mountaineering magazines). Guests of honour will be Kurt Diemberger an Temba and Subin, two Nepalese sherpas, friends of Karl.

Ski jumping: International Ladies Cup in Toblach / Dobbiaco

Everybody who planned to spend the next weekend in Toblach / Dobbiaco, must make a detour to the ski jumps. There is taking place the International Ladies Cup of ski jumping:

Saturday, the 18th February 2012 from 10 o’clock: first run
Sunday, the 19th February 2012 from 8.30 am: second run

This event is very ideal for guests of the Apartments Haus zur Vogelweide: they can watch the jumps directly from the balcony or from the garden of the accommodation.

The Granfondo Dobbiaco Cortina

Dobbiaco, the village of the Three Peaks, even in this winter season will organize the popular Grandfondo Dobbiaco Cortina.

On 5th February 2012 will take place the 35th edition of this international cross country skiing competition in classic style. Optimal snow conditions, a unique landscape and a lot of spectators along the course expect participants.

Those who prefer free style, can register for the race from Fiames to Dobbiaco scheduled for saturday, 4th February 2012. We wish all athletes a lot of success and all the spectators an unforgettable holiday in the Dolomites.

Dolomiti Balloonfestival with an interesting program

Always dreamed of flying above the clouds and of enjoying the view of the top of the Dolomites? You have the great opportunity soon! From 7th January till 15th January 2012 takes place the Dolomiti Balloonfestival in Alta Pusteria / Hochpustertal. This event celebrates its 10th birthday and on this occasion there will be also this year an interesting festival program for children and adults.

The Alpine Ski World Cup in South Tyrol

Unquestioned it is a highlight of the winter events in South Tyrol: Men’s Alpine Ski World Cup in Val Gardena and in Alta Badia. On 16th and 17th of December 2011 the great champions of the speed disciplines will get for the medals in Super-G and in Downhill.

On 18th of December 2011 in program the traditional pre-Christmas Highlight in Alta Badia: Men’s Giants slalom. And this year new in program: Nations Team Event on 20th of December 2011.

So, only a few weeks and we will know the winner 2011 of Val Gardena and of Alta Badia.

Globo Alpin's activity program

Also this summer the Alpine School Globo Alpin offers an exciting activity program.

Different walking tours are offered every week: for ex. an excursion to the Plätzwiese / Prato Piazza, where the walkers can explore the beautiful landscape and enjoy the breathtaking view to the Hohe Gaisl. Or a walk to the Bonner hut, at the bottom of the Pfannhorn / Corno di Fana: with a wonderful view to the Dolomites.

"Lake of Braies – Tour around the Spitzköfele", "Ra Stua – Fodara Vedla – Sennes", "From the Kameriot alpine pasture to the Allwartstein", "From the Haunold hut to the Innerfeld valley", "View of Dobbiaco: The Ratsberger meadows", … these are only a few escursions offered by the Globo Alpin.

And this one, who is passing the holidays in the Haus zur Vogelweide in Toblach / Dobbiaco, can take part in this program!

Sellaronda Bike Day and Sellaronda Hero

At the beginn of July in program also this year a highlight for every friend of the mountain bike: the Sellaronda Hero on 02nd of July and the Sellaronda Bike Day on 03th of July 2011.

The Sellaronda Hero is Europe’s hardest mountain bike race in the heart of the amazing Dolomites, the Sellaronda Bike Day is much more cozy, not a race, but a day during which the Dolomites passes around the Sella Group will be reserved to the bicyclists.

And, new this year: the Sellarodna Bike Day is in program also on September, 18.

Easter holidays in Dobbiaco

Easter in Dobbiaco / Toblach, Easter in the apartments Haus zur Vogelweide! There, where you can enjoy the magic of the spring, explore the beautiful landscape of the Dolomites between colorful meadows and fragrant forests… Or what do you think about a mountain bike tour?

Winter program for nature lovers and sport friends

The Alpin School Globo Alpin offers an interesting active program for nature lovers and sport friends whole the year.

The winter program, which is ending on 17th March 2011, contains winter walking tours and excursions with the snow shoes with a mountain guide. And that’s not enough: the Globo Alpin offers also a climbing course in the new climbing centre at the Nordic Arena in Toblach / Dobbiaco every Wednesday from 16 till 18 o’clock.

This program is gratis for the guests from the Apartments Haus zur Vogelweide in Toblach / Dobbiaco.
